Viprene® TPV Optimized with Specific Softness for Handles and Grips

Viprene® thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) exhibit many properties similar to rubber such as flexibility over a wide temperature range and resistance to degradation from water, oils and greases.  It can also be processed using conventional injection molding and extrusion equipment.

Available in Shore hardness range of 45A-50D, Viprene® can be optimized with specific softness needed in industrial, construction and appliance applications. Lower processing costs as well as adhesion to a broad range of substrates make it an ideal substitute of more costly material needed in soft touch parts such as overmolded grips for power tools, appliance, and utensil handles.

In addition to its rubber-like properties, Viprene® TPVs are fatigue resistant, dimensionally stable and offer very low compression set, heat aging stability, low temperature flexibility and excellent U.V. and ozone stability.

APS Elastomers’ TPU Improves Post-Processing Operations

APS Elastomers latest thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) provides good aesthetics, low tackiness and process efficiency for use in film, sheet, and extrusion coating and cured-in-place pipe applications. The specially formulated TPU maintains a low coefficient of friction and contact clarity without the need of lubricants, waxes or inorganic fillers that cause blooming or affect transparency in end products. Performance properties include; resistance to abrasion, chemical and heat resistance, as well as good adhesion, and transparency. Additionally, their low tackiness improves post-processing operations such as printing, hot stamping, laminating, and assembly.

With a Shore hardness range from 85A – 50D, the TPU allows faster processing and lower power requirements due to easier flow properties. “Our customers can expect higher production rates compared to typical TPUs at similar hardness levels”, says Stephane Morin, owner of APS Elastomers.

APS Elastomers Offers TPUs with Improved Extrudability

APS Elastomers has developed a hard thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that is easier to extrude. The new series of TPUs offers the extrudability of softer grades providing tubing manufacturers the advantages of hard TPUs without their production drawbacks. "The specially formulated TPU enables a thinner wall for tubing, which requires less material; allowing significant cost savings for tubing manufacturers," says Stephane Morin, owner of APS Elastomers. The ability to use harder grades of TPUs allows increased productivity and
cost efficiency; affording processors and OEMs additional design options. Additionally, the TPUs offer higher burst pressures while retaining the advantages of softer TPUs. Ranging in Shore hardness from 50D to 74D, the TPU improves extrusion output without loss of melt viscosity or crystallization in the die or on the screw.
